I should have done this sooner but everytime I opened my Vox I would start crying again so... I finally got it together a week ago and put another post on so I could move forward.
I would like to thank you all for your sympathy and support... I didn't realize how much Darin's passing would affect me.. but it did.
Any way.. to answer some of the questions..
Yes all the other kitties noticed but Maggie noticed the most.. she came over to say good by to him I laid him down on the patio so she could sniff him and recognize he was gone.
She has been sleeping with us at night untill this last week.. (this is not like her at all, she usually sleeps on her own.) I think she did it because Darin has slept at the foot of our bed for the last 4 years.
Of course Lilac has been hanging around close (she is my most sensitive to emotions kitty)
Darin's nose cancer just looked like a freckle most of his life.
Regarding his one ear.. before he became our kitty he had gotten into a fight and had an infection in his ear. when we realized he was on his own and took him to get fixed the Dr gave me a salve for it but the infection was in his cartalidge so it (the ear) crumpled. but was in all other ways just fine. the poor kitty he had a rough start... but the second part of his life was really good.
So to everyone thank you for your care and kind words
Love
Annie
Dear friends it is with a heavy heart and many shed tears that I come to you this evening to share the sad news that Darin has crossed over the Rianbow Bridge this day.
He has been afflicted with a cancerous growth on his nose for some time and we finally took him to be relieved of his pain today.
He is at rest in his favorite garden among the daffodils and some Irises from Metsakins.
Aubrey and I laid him in the ground with Cala lilies and daffodils and alysum.
It was a peacful time with those he loved beside him.
He will be sorely missed by us all.
He would hope that you would all remember his aspirations for all mankind....
That you would stop long enough in your rush to do too much and cuddle and love those who are near and dear to you.
That you would know when you are home and that you would always be able to find your way home when you are lost.
There is always time to smell the flowers and the cat nip.
Take a nap at least once in your llife outside in a spring breeze.
A purr will take you a long way.
Always be an ambasador for your species.
Be a friend to those you meet. Always work your way toward peace.
The sun has set today on a beautiful soul who walked this earth in a snow white fur coat witha generous purr and a warm heart.
There you are just petting them or feeding them or taking them for a walk.. or maybe reading a story to your children and they come to be with you because they want to...
Or you are walking outside and there they are hiding behind a bush waiting for you to walk by so they can chase you or get chased by you...
Maybe you are sitting and they come and sit by you and look up at you with that look.. the one of complete trust and affection.
But it happens at some point.. something happens and you are owned by your pet...
Oh yes you are... You know it, I know it and they know it.
Your life is richer for it and I like to believe their life is also...
What was your favorite bonding moment with your pet(s)?
Hi every one, Little one here I have been having the best time. Annies house is so different than Mommies. WE have a real tree in the livingroom.. can you believe it. not a plastic one like Mommy and the hustle and bustle lately has been invigorating. I have been running here and there all over the house and frolicking with everyone. Well.... except the evil Magneto but we are currently having a bit of a truce and only growling at each other as we pass.
but ohhh ohhh ohh there has been paper to get into and ribbons and that tree to sleep under and now it has all these boxes wrapped in pretty paper under it..
And the cooking did I mention the cooking yet.. Cookies and yummm cinnamon bread last night.
And your Christmas breakfast
Some Christmas Cookies
Merry Christmas from all us kitties Little one, Lilac, Magneto and Darin.
This is Darins first video I filmed it way back and it was either my first or second video.
And here is a recent one of Little one. Turn the sound down. I was trying to get her to look up and being very unsuccessful. LOL
I ask you to consider your cats tail
Residing at the back without fail
Some long, some short, some fat, some thin
Some just a puff ball at the end
They tell you if the cat is mad
Or happy, irritated or sad
They twitch, twine curl, and tap
They swish, slash, jerk and slap
Sometimes they curl around their toes
And when it's cold, even their nose
They tell you when your cat is done
With the silly game you'd begun
Kitty tails aren't meant to be
Held or pulled by your or me
So when your kitty's tail you see
Remember friend to let it be
Ahoy hoy,

This is from our local animal shelter.
We four kitties recomend that you
cut them out in little dog shapes
so we kitties can really get one over on a droolly dog.
We sent Annie to the kitchen to make them for us.
She promised us she had some little dog cookie cutters.
Seriously though if you are looking for ideas on what to do for your local pet rescue please go to dancing bears vox blog and read about donating pet toys

Purrs and head butts and snorgles

There are times when kitties look at you and you know they know everything about you.
Your deepest darkest secrets.
your needs and every little bad thing about you.
They know you are going to eat that dish of ice cream and you are not supposed to and they look at you and let you know, THEY KNOW.
I believe they do this so you will be sure to share. but it is hard to tell. They just give you THE LOOK.
They read your soul when you think you are alone. They read you like a book. They know when you are going to do something either to their benifit or to yours. And they KNOW you know, that they know. Then they make sure they benifit from your activities good or bad.
The other thing they know is that you are about to do something that they are not going to like AT ALL. this is why it is hard to lob a rolled up sock at them when you think they are sound asleep so you can see them jump straight up in the air. You know how this one goes you cock your arm ready to lightly toss the sock because you want to see your kitty jump up like a maniac but know just as you are ready to throw they open their eyes and give you the look.
I swear they can read your mind.
They look into your mind and send you messages. Feed me I'm hungry. Cuddle me I need your love.
I saw you take that piece of cheese and you ARE going to share it with me. If you throw that sock at me I WILL leave you a present that you won't like tonight.
I love you even when you are sad.
And of course if the look doesn't work there is always pawing the sliding glass door.
Once upon a time, there was a little white kitten. He lived at home with a lot of other cats but the kitten had to find all his own food. He was petted and played with but that was all that he got. He also had to keep a sharp eye out for Dogs. But he was not afraid he was busy playing all day long.
He ran in the grass. Made friends with the horses and chased bugs. He learned to catch mice to eat. and most of the time he had a pretty good time. Then one day he noticed that there were new neighbors in the house next door to his house. He went to check this development out. After all he was a friendly sociable kitten and you never know when you are going to get a treat.
There were two grownups and best of all two girls. One of the girls was special. She loved kitties. HE decided she would be his new best friend. He made sure to show up in their pasture when ever he saw them outside and he also made a point of trying to get picked up by the one little girl. He wasn't sure why but he knew she was his friend.
THe people were very nice and he spent more and more time with them. Pretty soon it got cold outside and wet and it was harder and harder to catch enough mice to keep his tummy full. HE was getting skinnier and skinnier. He continued to find ways to make it over to the new peoples house. He wanted to be a part of their family. THey were always picking him up and petting him.
One day late into the winter the little girls mom happened to see him late at night. He wasn't sure what hapened but from that day on she made sure he had food every day. He made sure to be there every day. This went on for a long time. The kitten had grown into a cat but they weren't sure who he belonged to but they kept petting him and feeding him.
What the kitty didn't know was that the people had made descreet enquires to find out if the people who were supposed to be his humans claimed him. THey of course said no they didn't. Then another neighbor said that a local farm wanted a farm cat so The kitten who had grown into a cat was taken one day to a farm a long way from the family the kitten wanted to be with.
The kitten wasn't sure why all he knew was he wanted to go home. So he high tailed it out of there and headed home. It took him three days. it was 18 miles away. But he made it home. The neighbor offered to take the kitten back to the farm but the mom said NO. Any kitty that went to such great lengths to be with them would be with them she said. He had chosen them and that was where he would stay.
The family already had another older cat who had always been an only, so the kitten only got to go in the little girls room for a long time not the rest of the house. But he didn't care he was home where he wanted to be with the people who loved him.
There are few things in this life that you can really enjoy. One of my all time favorites is an afternoon nap.
Now some folks call this a catnap and that would be because we cats have perfected it.
Step One.
Find a really good comfortable place, preferably outside during the spring, summer and fall.
As you can see above, I have located a superb spot in the vegetable garden. This is both restful comfortable and has an added bonus as you will see later.
Step Two
Now that you have located your spot, make yourself comfortable. You know, wiggle around a bit until everything is completely relaxed.
Step Three
Now comes the hard part. Breath very deeply taking big breaths at first and then breath slower and slower and make all your muscles relax. Then let your mind drift off... IT helps to picture your favorite things. Pretty soon you will be sound asleep with the breezes blowing and the birds tweeting around you. This is the best type of nap.
Especially when done in the afternoon... think decadence and enjoy yourself.
Step Four.
When you are fully rested and your human shows up as they inevitably do because who can resist a peacefully sleeping cat. You will get snorgles and pets and scritches under your chin. This is what I call a successful catnap.
